A friend of mine just got No Man’s Sky through Xbox Game Pass for pc. On No Man’s Sky he doesn’t have a network setting in his options menu and therefore we can’t friend each other.
Launch the game. Access the options menu. Navigate to the network settings. Locate the "Add Friend" option. Enter the No Man's Sky username of your friend. Send them a friend invitation. Once you've added your friends, you can easily play together. Just start a session and invite them to join your game.
The game plays fine without internet connection. You won't have to cheat quicksilver, quicksilver missions can be done solo. Expeditions rewards are purely cosmetic, and you can probably do them without internet connection anyway. You can certainly do them with multiplayer turned off. 1. No network options. It doesn't sound like it was your install or his. The multi-player feature has been finicky to say the least, even with the "Cross-play" update. This sounds more like a software issue on the server end. I don't even think it's a network issue per say. However, most people don't bother to check global network outages either.
